Hi! I’m Abby, creator, and artist behind TIDALWOOD: driftwood by Abby.
Growing up on a small farm in Somerset, MA, on the shores of the Lees River, is where my love for treasure hunting began. What began as a mission collecting trash along the shores of the Lees River evolved into making collections out of everything from golfballs to heart rocks and driftwood to Chase Dairy Farm milk bottles dated back to 1845. Creating alluring, beautiful, and fun pieces of art utilizing treasures from my collections became a passion.
I find myself endlessly fascinated by the story told by each piece of driftwood. Where did it come from? How far did it travel? How did it end up on the shores of my backyard? The one thing each piece of wood has in common is that they all come from a tree. It only felt natural to create something to bring each piece of wood back to its original state… sculptures made of driftwood to be hung in trees .
Every piece of driftwood collected is unique, making each TIDALWOOD sculpture a one of its kind creation. Another feature of each sculpture that truly gives each piece its one-of-a-kind can never be duplicated status is the incorporation of Chase Dairy Farm glass milk bottle tops and bottoms found here in my backyard. Finally, a heart rock from my collection is affixed to every sculpture.
These hanging sculptures make a beautiful addition to any landscape. Especially to anyone who has a connection to the Lees River, Mount Hope Bay, the East Bay, coastal Southern New England, and of course, Chase Dairy Farm of Swansea MA.
